CYC Experiential Learning

CYC CONNECT: A 10-week elementary-aged program where students connect with each other through ice breakers and games; listen to and reflect on a read-a-loud book followed by hands-on projects that continue the theme of the day.  This program was created for distanced learning through the pandemic and is easily transferred to in person programming.

PORTABLE CHALLENGE: Our portable team building program can be delivered with a range of challenge levels for all ages and backgrounds.  The challenges can include easy to find everyday objects repurposed for fun creative problem solving as well as specialized props for a unique portable pro-social development program.

STOWE HEIGHTS: Stowe Heights is CYC’s high and low challenge course located behind Stowe Elementary on the east side of Des Moines.  Stowe Heights allows us to take team building to the next level, literally. At Stowe Heights, portable challenges are taken 1-3 feet off the ground with our stationary low elements. This accelerates team performance factors like problem-solving, communication, trust, accountability, support, commitment, and much more.  The low course allows for scaffolding that develops a team that can support individual members as they move to the high course which gives participants the opportunity to further choose their challenge. The high course is a double decker static course where participants put on personal protective equipment including a harness, helmet and safety lines (static line lobster claw lanyards). The high course is suitable for most ages, being accessible for youth who are at least 4 ft 8 inches (approximately 5th grade).

My school counselor told me about CYC.  I thought it sounded interesting so I decided to join. Since joining CYC, I have learned new things like science skills all while having fun!
